My Story
My mind flashes back to a ten-year-old me-mesmerized with the vivid colors of Ocean blues and vivid pink eyeshadows of the early ‘80s, which sat proudly on the makeup stand in my father’s pharmacy.
l loved to watch the glamorous women who bought these products and imagined their exciting lifestyles.
By the age of twelve, I wore full makeup to school- much to the horror of my Mother!!!
In junior cert, l was certain l only wanted to study Beauty Therapy. Once leaving cert was completed, l started with Loriam Beauty Therapy College, Dawson Street Dublin, and received a diploma in I.T.E.C, C.I.B.T.A.C, and C.I.D.E.S.C.O- an international exam - the highest level available.
Thereafter l gained great experience in a busy Letterkenny salon. The opportunity arose and l opened my first Beauty Salon in Ballybofey- at the tender age of 18 I opened in 1988- the Thalgo salon went from strength to strength, thanks to great local support. After twelve years, and one beautiful daughter later, Susanna and I decided to teach level 6 Beauty Therapy- it suited perfectly, as a mother to a small child, l had a better life balance. So a pre-teaching dip was achieved at Galway NUI, and l taught a lot of fabulous girls how to become great beauticians and beauty therapists, hopefully sharing my love of the job, along the way. I was still focused on upskilling, training in various skincare ranges, and l thoroughly enjoyed my year training to become a business and life coach.
It helped me greatly with my tutoring ability and it was thrilling to me when students received the highest ITEC marks in Ireland.
I loved the experience of teaching level 6.
Beauty Therapy, hands-on work, beckoned again! I reopened at Chestnut Road Ballybofey ten years ago.
I have never looked back
